I loved the Maze Runner book, I was tantalised by its promise so when I saw its sequel The Scorch Trials in Ulysses Bookstore in Hampton it was a no brainer. I had so many issues with this book. I don’t know if you’ve read it, so I’ll try not to put in too many spoilers, but spoilers may happen.
This book is about some teenagers who are being put through the wringer. I’m not really sure why as that’s not really made clear in this book, I might have to read books 3, 4 and 5 to find out. But the fact that they’re only teens and they have so many bad experiences they need to go through put me off. I mean, why would you do this to people??? That was going through my head for most of the book.
This book is a challenge to put down. Thank goodness it’s aimed at younger people and so the reading level is much younger than mine. It meant that I was able to go to bed and read a decent chunk in the same time frame as reading a book aimed at an older person when I might only get through a few pages. It meant that the halfway mark when I was hooked came that much faster.
This book drove me mad. How can one person think up all these things to do to teens? How can one look at the world and say ‘what if the weather was really topsy turvy, what would that do to a person having to walk through the heat and the rain? How would they survive? What planning could they do when they’re given few resources?’
This book was addictive. Once I got past the halfway mark and I’m starting to look at the prose and the friendships and various other bits and pieces I found myself admiring what the author has done. I found myself admiring how he’s done them and looking forward to the next book, and maybe the two books after that.
This book might have its issues for me, but when I check my bookmark I find I’ve not made any notes on it. I must have had some difficulty putting it down long enough to write some notes. Will I read the rest of the series? Probably. Will I buy them or borrow them? Good question, I can’t answer that today. Will I pass this book onto someone who is the target market? What a good idea, I’m so glad you thought of that.
Apparently there are movies of these books. I find it imperative to watch these movies, but not tonight.
