My brilliantly aptly named new series continues. Where I randomly select two books from my shelves and attempt to find a link. I do not promise it will be a good link, only that it will be a link. It might be anything at all. One thing I do promise is that the link will not be due to the books both containing words such as ‘and’ or ‘the’, although having said that it’d be really awesome to now find two books totally missing both of those words.

The books I chose last week were Shave the Whales by Scott Adams and Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosentahl & Tom Lichtenheld. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link.

The Books

Shave the Whales by Scott Adams is the printed copy of many of Adams’ cartoons printed in newspapers worldwide. It’s a very clever illustration of the many different types of people in the workforce.

Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosentahl & Tom Lichtenheld is a very clever book talking about exclamation marks and how to use them. If we had more books like this then punctuation would be easier to understand and people might use it more appropriately.

The Link

I’ve got two links today, both equally bad but you’re getting them anyway.

The first is about the contents of the books. Exclamation Mark or ! teaches you how to use exclamation marks while Shave the Whales illustrates how punctuation can be used to good effect.

The second is that they were both gifts. Shave the Whales was a present to my OH while Exclamation Mark was sent to me by my friend Sandi.

Now I think about it here’s a third. ! teaches how to use punctuation marks so you don’t have to use as many words in order to make your point clear. An exclamation mark can make ‘Congratulations!’ a short form for ‘Congratulations, we’re so excited for you with your big achievement.’ While Shave the Whales mixes illustrations and short sentences to make points quickly and succinctly.

If you hadn’t guessed, I generally don’t do short and succinct.

Next Week!

Next week will be incredibly challenging but I’ll do my best or worst. We’ve got The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. LeGuin and The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link. I promise I’ll try to be entertaining.
