My brilliantly aptly named new series continues. Where I randomly select two books from my shelves and attempt to find a link. I do not promise it will be a good link, only that it will be a link. It might be anything at all. One thing I do promise is that the link will not be due to the books both containing words such as ‘and’ or ‘the’, although having said that it’d be really awesome to now find two books totally missing both of those words.

The books I chose last week were Rumpole and the Angel of Death by John Mortimer and Great Tales of The Golden Age of Science Fiction with an introduction by Isaac Asimov. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link.

The Books

Rumpole and the Angel of Death is part of the series by John Mortimer. These books were made into a TV series by Thames Television, I remember watching them with my Dad. They starred Australian actor, Leo McKern as barrister Horace Rumpole. This book is a set of six stories with Mrs Rumpole (better known as She Who Must Be Obeyed) telling a story of her own.

I’ve included a link to buy this book as they’re nicely written and if you enjoy courtroom dramas then this is for you, but I could only find an omnibus edition.

Great Tales of The Golden Age of Science Fiction was compiled by Isaac Asimov, Charles G. Waugh & Martin H. Greenberg. It contains some great stories from the time when science was coming into its own, it’s after the pulp era of the 1920s and 1930s. This tome contains stories by Ross Rocklynne, A.E. van Vogt, Lester del Rey, Theodore Sturgeon, C.L. Moore, Isaac Asimov, A. Bertram Chandler, T.L. Sherred and Jack Williamson

I’d include a link for buying this but it seems to not be available where I’ve looked. Definitely worth reading if you’re into science fiction.

The Link

Today’s link is pretty poor, but I have to work with what comes to me. The last story in the Rumpole book is the title story and talks about the Angel of Death while the first story in The Golden Age of Science Fiction talks about time wanting a skeleton. In order to get a skeleton someone has to die and that means the Angel of Death has to come knocking.

Next Week!

Next week we have Jewels and Ashes by Arnold Zable and Camber of Culdi by Katherine Kurtz. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link. I promise I’ll try to be entertaining.
