My brilliantly aptly named new series continues. Where I randomly select two books from my shelves and attempt to find a link. I do not promise it will be a good link, only that it will be a link. It might be anything at all. One thing I do promise is that the link will not be due to the books both containing words such as ‘and’ or ‘the’, although having said that it’d be really awesome to now find two books totally missing both of those words.

The books I chose last week were One Flew into the Cuckoo’s Egg by Bill Oddie and Naturally Better by Kristen Morrison. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link.

The Books

One Flew into the Cuckoo’s Egg is the autobiography of Bill Oddie. It details his time growing up and the angst he had with his mother until she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and taken away to hospital. He finally properly met her almost thirty years later and we see that meeting here. He also talks about some of his time with The Goodies and his bird watching exploits which are many and varied. What really hit me was his description of depression while down in the pits of it.

Naturally Better is the story of dedication of Kristen Morrison and her family to bringing up a son born with Down’s Syndrome. It is an incredible story, one showing the ups, the downs and a massive dose of perseverance in order to get to where they are today.

The Link

The link today is health. Having good health, whether physical or emotional can play a very big part in how one works. In Naturally Better, Morris does her best in conjunction with the rest of her family to ensure the health of her Down’s Syndrome son improves. Oddie talks about emotional health and how badly it can impact one’s work.

Next Week!

Next week we have Rumpole and the Angel of Death by John Mortimer and Great Tales of The Golden Age of Science Fiction with an introduction by Isaac Asimov. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link. I promise I’ll try to be entertaining.
