My brilliantly aptly named new series continues. Where I randomly select two books from my shelves and attempt to find a link. I do not promise it will be a good link, only that it will be a link. It might be anything at all. One thing I do promise is that the link will not be due to the books both containing words such as ‘and’ or ‘the’, although having said that it’d be really awesome to now find two books totally missing both of those words.

The books I chose last week were The Drums Go Bang by Ruth Park and D’Arcy Niland and The Curse of the Lazy Lover by Erle Stanley Gardner. No links this time as they don’t appear to be in print. If you don’t want to look at the covers you have problems.

The Books

The Drums Go Bang by Ruth Park and D’Arcy Niland is one of those iconic books everyone should read. It’s the story of five years in the life of two of Australia’s most famous authors. I wrote about the book here.

The Case of the Lazy Lover by Erle Stanley Gardner is one of the Perry Mason series of crime fiction. With more than 80 books they are easily serialised and expanded on in the late 1950s to the mid 1960s, I always saw them in black and white and I don’t think it had anything to with not having a colour telly.

The Link

Not sure about this link, but here we go into fictional territory. Perry Mason was a lawyer and used words rather ingeniously, Ruth Park and D’Arcy Niland were authors and used words to their advantage. Yes, I’ve just compared a fictional lawyer with two real-life authors. Comments and criticism welcomed.

Next Week!

Next week we have Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and Shaves the Whales by Scott Adams. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link. I promise I’ll try to be entertaining.
