I have a friend who insisted I borrow this book despite me not wanting to read graphic novels. She insisted and I couldn’t say no but it still took me months to get around to even opening it and that only during breaks in and between classes.

It’s not really a graphic novel, it’s sort of a regular novel but one with lots and lots of illustrations. I have no idea how accurate it is but it’s certainly fascinating.

While it’s meant to be about Franz Kafka’s life there are lots of excerpts from his writing as he put himself into his writing in so, so many ways. He had many problems including issues with his father and issues with dying in strange ways, these he brought into his writing. These writings are depicted in the book along with illustrations of the issues.

The photo gives you some idea of the work in the book. This spread deals with Kafka being really worried and being sentenced to death, so he then carries out his own sentence. A little strange.
