I have an apology for you. I missed Friday Photos last week, not only that I didn’t write anything at all. My reason is not really an excuse as I could have found something to write about and scheduled it but I didn’t. I’ve been seeing my physiotherapist due to neck pain and I saw her early on Friday morning, her ministrations left me feeling rather blech. Not only but also, she suggested I should put a heat pack on my neck, it was only going to be 36º that day and the combination of the work she’d done plus the heat pack and the heat of the day had me feeling rather less than human and rather incapable of stringing multiple words together and actually having them make sense. My apologies for being human, I’m really not sure that’s allowed.

I have been reading a book that’s left me mildly excited. In part because it actually arrived, the publicist approached me last year and promised to send the book but it only arrived a week ago. They tried three times to send it to me so I can’t help wondering if there are another two copies in transit, if they arrive I’ll ask if I can do a giveaway. The only thing I’ll tell you about the book today is that it’s a business book but it could be useful for people who want to know some of the whys behind various decisions.

Anyway, onto other excitements! My first day at uni is this week, this coming Thursday!! It’s been a long time coming and I hate waiting so it’s been really good that they give us so much to do in anticipation. There’s a whole lot of learning about how the uni works, learning about how to learn with lots of tips and tricks, and included in all of that is something I should have done during O-week last week. I suddenly discovered I could download a timetable to show me what I absolutely had to do and what would be a good thing to do and I’m only embarrassed a lot as I’ve missed a compulsory lecture. I’ve joined the Peers and Mentors Program, there’s a Meet and Greet tomorrow so I’ll ask someone there what it was all about as I suspect it doesn’t count towards my final marks.

What I have been doing over the weekend is reading through as much uni stuff as I possibly can and diarising the due dates for assessment tasks. I can tell you I felt rather daunted when I noticed I have five assessment tasks due in over an eight day period. Bearing in mind we’re able to submit these to our tutoring type people early for feedback and then edit them some more I suspect I’ll have the bulk of them mostly done by then and it should be the final edits and proofread before submitting them online. The diary stuff took some time as I am starting the year using a wall calendar, a paper diary and my ediary. Whether I’ll continue with the paper diary remains to be seen but I’ve had the proof of the usefulness of a wall calendar before and this one is from the Student Union so it has lots of useful and much needed dates included on it. I’ve included all my letters for Alphabet by Author to the end of the cycle, all my religious holidays and all of my Discworld dates so I can see at a glance when I have to give my apologies and when I have to submit something early, and when I have to panic because there’s so much happening…the end of May is a doozy. Not only do I have those five assessments but there’s also the Melbourne Jewish Writer’s Festival and a Victorian Discworld Klatch function (there’s a clash here, I’ll resolve it closer to the day).

Somehow I suspect I’ll be a tad busy this year.
