I love detective stories, I have done for more years than I care to remember. My sister was collecting Agatha Christie stories and gave them to me when she first went overseas in the 1980s, I’ve continued collecting them ever since and am now only missing three titles. I wonder if I’ll give them back to her when I get those last three, that could be fun and free up two shelves on my bookshelves!

When I was young I read The Three Investigators books bookended by Alfred Hitchcock. I’ve read all sorts of detective authors including Arthur Conan Doyle and Sue Grafton. One thing I’ve just now realised is that I’ve read very few modern authors with Sue Grafton being the exception. P.D. James has been recommended to me and one day I’ll pick up one of her books to see how she goes but for the moment the closest I’ve come to her works is this article.

P.D. James has decided she knows the name of the murderer in a very famous case from 1931. Julia Wallace was murdered in her home, her husband was convicted of this crime but his conviction was quashed on appeal. He was out on a wild goose chase during the murder and people have speculated he could have returned in time to do the deed and then get back to establishing his alibi. I’m not going any further into speculation except to point out the comments on this article….they’re a scream! People are very funny and very inventive. EnidBlytonProdigy feels Oswald did it while MisterMeaner has a slightly more probable solution. The byplay in the comments is worth clicking through for a read. In the meantime I’m going back to Isaac Asimov’s essays on robots and robotics…the important things in life.
