Earth, Air, Fire and Custard by Tom Holt

Custard? Custard? You’re probably thinking water and you’d normally be right as earth, air, fire and water are considered the four elements but Tom Holt generally has other ideas and has put custard in here instead. This book finishes the storyline of Paul and Sophie in the madcap way we’ve come to expect from reading some of the rest of the series.

As it turns out you can always nullify a work arrangement with J. W. Wells & Co. by dying…who knew this company was so different?

As usual, the characters are nicely drawn and the situations are madcap but eventually make sense. Holt eventually brings everything together and explains some of the seemingly incomprehensible things Paul is made to do.

You can buy it here and make me squillions of cents (a little, anyway). I do suggest you read the first book in the storyline before you move on but it’s only a suggestion. You can read my thoughts on The Portable Door here and then buy the book here. If you’re going to buy two books you can save on postage in which case you might as well buy the middle book and have the whole lot all at once, it’s called In Your Dreams and I’m not linking to it just because…for no other reason.

Warnings

Yes, it’s fantasy and it helps if you know some of the rules of fantasy

Yes, there are swear words – it’s an adult book

Yes, there are mad connections which make sense on reflection
