It was a strange thing but everyone noticed me when we were passing a bookshop my ears pricked up my and demeanor changed. There were some we managed to get inside and others were closed so I have a range of photos for you.
This first one is only one of the bookstalls at the conference we attended in Boston. I’ll let you figure out why I took it.
We were only in Providence a short time but it was more relaxed and we had time to wander the streets so we tried to pop into this shop with only a slight problem of ‘it was closed’ but at least we knew where we were.
I always find notices like this really strange, why can’t people have the common sense to follow instructions without being told. Anyway, I took this at Symposium Books. We actually bought there and I’ll be scribbling a few words about a book I bought there in due course. Lovely shop, when the cashier discovered we were from Australia he said ‘we sell a lot of books to Australians’ and I told him why, giving him an example of a mass market paperback (MMPB) that he had sitting nearby…he was shocked!
Took this next photo also at Symposium Books. I have a friend who loves the Redwall series so I was thinking of her when I saw them.
This next photo is just to remind me to find the book and read it. I can’t remember why the owner recommended Windy Island but I’ll follow through anyway.
Anyway. That divides these photos up quite neatly. I have more from New York and then a whole article coming up on the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, the guy who accidently founded it is very entertaining and the whole centre is very inspiring so I think it needs a whole article on its own…especially as I have lots and lots of photos of it.
