It’s popularly known as ASIM because we’re so fond of acronyms and it’s much easier to say. I love ASIM and have almost every magazine sitting on my shelf, they are chocfull of seriously fabulous writing and as I haven’t written about them yet I’m taking this opportunity to do so now.

They had a stall in the Dealer’s Hall at AussieCon 4 and I took a couple of photos. This first one has Lucy Zinkiewicz (Ship’s Companion) and Simon Petrie (Inflight Waste Reconstitution Officer)

While this one has Lucy Zinkiewicz, a little bit of Simon Petrie and also a miscellaneous author collecting his copy, I’ll give you a proper photo of him another time as well as his name.

ASIM is top quality fiction, they produce frequent magazines and you can only buy them online through subscription. (I checked out their website and realised I’ve lied to you, they do have a selection of discerning bookshops selling their quality product, but it’s best to subscribe and have it come into your letterbox because I say so.) I have been subscribing for a while now.

They have an exhaustive slush process whereby they read all submissions and only the best are published. The ones that aren’t published are sent back to the author as fast as their process allows to ensure they are not sitting on tenterhooks without an answer. They do pay for published articles, or so I’m assured and I believe they even pay in currency you can use on this world. Their website is funny and informative and gives you every answer you could possibly want. It even has a couple of letters to the editor.

I can’t recommend this publication highly enough. It is a really great publication and they encourage emerging authors. Should you want to try out a couple of past magazines before subscribing I do have two copies available for sale on my website.

  1. The miscellaneous author in photo 2 is, I believe, Adam Browne (although I’m prepared to be corrected on that score).

And this is an excellent writeup for the mag–thanks muchly!

  2. Aha a reply! Thanks Simon, I do have his name written down as I have another photo to come later this week and I’ll reveal all then.
