Randomly Shelves or Something

Suzie Eisfelder

My brilliantly aptly named new series continues. Where I randomly select two books from my shelves and attempt to find a link. I do not promise it will be a good link, only that it will be a link. It might be anything at all. One thing I do promise is that the link will not be due to the books both containing words such as ‘and’ or ‘the’, although having said that it’d be really awesome to now find two books totally missing both of those words.

The books I chose last week were The Under Dog by Agatha Christie and The Stories of Tobias Wolff by Tobias Wolff. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link.

The Books

The Under Dog by Agatha Christie is a book of short stories featuring one of Christie’s most loved detectives, Hercule Poirot.

The Stories of Tobias Wolff. Tobias Wolff is an American writer well known for his autobiographical novel This Boy’s Life. His writing is very powerful.

The Link

When I pulled these books off the shelf last week I didn’t think I’d get a link but today it seems to be jumping out at me. Today I’m calling the link all about “victims”. Hercule Poirot helps victims either to find closure or to find their killer. Tobias Wolff often writes about victims, it’s very apparent in the first story where the couple are victims of the neighbours fights but then the wife-next-door is a victim of her husband.

Next Week!

Next week but I’ll do my best or worst. We’ve got Foiling the Dragon by Susan Price and First Channel by Jean Lorrah & Jacqueline Lichtenberg. At first glance the link is fantasy but that seems a little trite so next week will be interesting.
