My brilliantly aptly named new series continues. Where I randomly select two books from my shelves and attempt to find a link. I do not promise it will be a good link, only that it will be a link. It might be anything at all. One thing I do promise is that the link will not be due to the books both containing words such as ‘and’ or ‘the’, although having said that it’d be really awesome to now find two books totally missing both of those words.
The books I chose last week were The Spider Goddess by Tara Moss and Shackleton’s Epic by Tim Jarvis. Stay tuned to find out if I’ve actually got a link.
The Books
The Spider Goddess appears to be a supernatural book. It’s the second book in the Pandora English series and from what I’ve seen with a quick google people can’t wait for the next in the series. I’ll get there, I’ll read it in due course.
Shackleton’s Epic: Recreating the World’s Greatest Journey of Survival is Tim Jarvis’ account of his recreation of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s epic journey to Antarctica. He tried to use the same equipment and the same food while sailing a replica of the small, keel-less boat used by Shackleton in 1916.
The Link
We have here today a fictional book with a lady with supernatural powers of some kind, I’ll find out more when I read it. And we have a non-fiction book about the recreation of an epic journey. Without reading both of them I can’t see a link, instead the link is with the authors. They both research the hell out of their topics before writing. In Jarvis’ case he’s done as much research as he possibly can about the journey before attempting it. In Moss’ case she puts much time and effort into her research in order to present a well-rounded book.

Next week but I’ll do my best or worst. We’ve got Phonology by Philip Carr and The Australian Journal of Language and Literacy May 1997 edited by Michèle Anstey. I’ve taken both books from my To Be Read pile so there’s the added challenge there of finding a link when I’ve not read either of them.
