Mondayitis – Uncle Alfred
Today is a very special edition of Mondayitis. Today, I present to you Uncle Alfred! Sometimes he’s a Queensland Blue Heeler and when he’s not he’s a perfectly rational man.
What do you read?
I’m not a big reader. I read the newspaper, there are a lot of pictures in the newspaper, it makes it easier to read.
Why do you read?
I read to pass the time, when I’m not mowing the lawn or drying dishes. Sometimes the family leave the telly on and I watch that. Good programme on now, it’s Playschool they’re about to go through the window. It’s a dog! Woof! I’m a dog! Want to play with the dog on telly! Woof! Woof!
My apologies for that, I didn’t know how long he’d last. When Uncle Alfred sees a dog he behaves like a dog. I think I should take him to the park for a game of fetch. He comes from the book I’ll Plead Insanity by Melbourne lawyer David Cross.
Mondayitis – Frog
Today Mondayitis is brought to you by a very special Frog, I’ve translated as best I can.
Why do you read?
Read. Read! READ! I don’t read I just get eaten. People should just do their work and. stop. eating. me. I don’t know what Brian Tracy was thinking in getting people to eat me, he’s not in France where they eat frog’s legs (yech). Maybe his book should be called Eat That Cane Toad! and help eliminate a pest from the Australian environment. And he wants people to eat me every day, but every day! And so many times each day! Why couldn’t he just tell people to do the work, take your biggest task and just do it rather than eating me. I’m not asking much, just want to live my life, eat flies, procreate and LIVE!
Do. your. work. and. stop. eating. me!
Thank you to the Frog from Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy. I fully agree about the Cane Toads, they have much more flesh and would make a better meal.
Mondayitis – Bedknob
Today’s Mondayitis questions were supposed to be answered by the Bedknob but I suspect I shouldn’t be talking to inanimate objects.
What do you read?
What do I read? Hmmm, that’s a very good question. Until I was unceremoniously removed from Paul’s bed I would read whatever the children read while on the bed, sometimes they’d leave the book there but I couldn’t turn the pages.
Why do you read?
Why? I have plenty of time, I don’t go anywhere so I have to do something to fill in the time. After Paul took me off the bed I spent a lot of time in pockets and cupboards so reading was challenging. Did you know they didn’t even give me a book to read? Not even a dictionary? And me being the most well-read Bedknob in history!
I don’t read much any more, only spell books, not since Miss Price and Mr Jones took the whole bed back in time. Miss Price only made me work for Paul and no-one else so since he’s been left back in the future I’ll never move again.
I have to say, the Bed didn’t appreciate sitting on the beach; the way that water came up around its legs made it quite frightened. Salt water is not good for metal bed legs.

Is there a difference between the two?
Can you do the Safety Dance while reading?
Hmmm, another question I don’t really understand. I am always careful with safety but why would I dance about it? And anyway, who’d dance with a Bedknob? I can’t see anyone dancing with the Bed but a Bedknob?
No more questions, they’re rather strange.

Mondayitis – Leigh
Today I’m proud to bring you a real live author for Mondayitis. What do you read?
I try to read a variety. But my favourite is chick lit – Marian Keyes, Sophie Kinsella and many of the indie Chick Lit authors. But I really enjoyed Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games.
Do you read for work or for pleasure?
Definitely for pleasure. I actually feel a bit guilty when I read as I usually should be doing things like housework.
Do you read to your kids or someone else’s?
My youngest can’t read yet so I read to him. Or get the older ones to do it. Ditto for other people’s kids 
Can you do the Safety Dance while reading?
I can’t do the Safety Dance while not reading. Might make it a goal though. Start small, lol.
Are you a Discworld/Twilight/Harry Potter Fan?
Harry Potter. I don’t know much about Discworld but I think I will have to go and check it out. I know this isn’t part of the question but I’M a huge, huge Dr Who fan Does that help?
Would you attend a flash mob dressed as your favourite character?
How do you find out about those things? Are they invite only?

What do you read?
Some natural history stuff, some biography, stuff about cats, some humorous stuff like the ‘Weird things customers say in book shops’, fiction – some mysteries, Abbey books series by Elsie Oxenham. I don’t like stuff about violence and aggression – except Harry Potter and J.R.R. Tolkien!
Why do you read?
Can’t help it – have always read – helped in local Library at primary school, and became a Librarian.
Do you read for work or for pleasure and is there any difference between the two?
There is a difference, esp when I worked in a Court Library. Children’s Library was an improvement.
Do you read to your kids or to someone else’s kids?
I used to read to my kids, now I read to their kids.

I am a Harry Potter fan, but at my age (70+), would have to consider the flash mob idea. I love lots of flash mobs, so maybe??? depends …
Margaret is a valuable member of Collecting Books and Magazines, a group on Facebook where we talk about all things bookish but only for books published prior to 1980.
She has lived in Brisbane most of my life, have family and have been involved in family history, Australian plants, craft groups and historical groups.
She also loves some cryptic crosswords and some logic puzzles., helping a couple of people who create some logic puzzles, to test their beta versions, before the puzzles are released online.
Mondayitis – Fluff
Today I’d like to introduce you to someone from my childhood and yours, Fluff. I had a bit of trouble getting Fluff to answer any questions as she was very busy playing with Betty’s pram, or running away from Scottie. Fluff seems to have spent most of our time running after John and saying “Mia-ow, mia-ow!” Even when the family went on a holiday to the beach Fluff wasn’t interested in answering my questions, she seemed far more interested in the bowl of milk.
I hope when Fluff grows up she will be more amenable to answering questions.
Mondayitis – Tarzan
Today I’m asking Tarzan of the Apes a few questions about reading.
What do you read?
I read whatever I find in that little cabin. Sometimes they are written with a regular hand whilst at others it is more irregular, I think they might have been written by…
Kerchak:
Why are you talking to this man ape? He is nothing, you must talk to me! I am the King of these Apes and that means you only talk to me. I can kill you with one hand and you show me no respect…
Tarzan:
I am better than you, Kerchak. You cannot read, you cannot use this knife, you did not kill the gorilla…
Kerchak:
I am bigger than you, you are puny, you are small, you have no hair… Rarrrghhh
At this point I think retreat is wise for me, I don’t want to get caught up in a fight between Tarzan and Kerchak. I’ll thank both of them for talking to me but from a vast distance such as another continent. You can read more about them both in Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Mondayitis – Towel
Mondayitis tried to ask the Towel some questions, the results were interesting.
Books? Books? There’s only one book worth reading and thank goodness it has audio as I don’t have eyes.
Always know where your towel is! That’s nice, I don’t like being lost especially when someone decides to hitchhike to another galaxy but who said I wanted another galaxy! What about staying at home and having a break, maybe giving me a wash? Don’t just suck on one corner, gross!
But how can I listen to that book when I don’t have ears? Hang on, how come I’m talking? Am I so dirty that I’m able to talk now?
Mondayitis – Timmy
“Woof”, says Timmy “Can I read too?”
“No, you silly thing” responds George, “dogs can’t read.”
Timmy would do anything for her including learning to read. He wouldn’t dress up and attend a flash mob as George wouldn’t dream of dressing him up and have other dogs laugh at him. Let’s just pretend George has taught Timmy to read.
What do you read?
Woof! The newspaper, I need to know what’s happening in the world if I am going to keep up with Mistress George. Woof!
Why do you read?
I thought I answered that already?
Do you read to your kids or to someone else’s kids?
No, woof. My mouth doesn’t work too well for making words. I do wag my tail at them and play fetch.
Before you ask, no, I would not dream of dressing up. Mistress George is good to me and does not dream of putting me in real clothes, I have my fur and that is good enough for us. She did once put a trumpet on my neck but explained it was for my own good to stop me scratching my wound. I was happy to go camping with her to hide from other dogs, I did not want them to laugh at me.
